Kohei Nawa
“The Creator of Image Cells,” representative of the new generation of artists in Japan
Educational Experience
In 2003, he graduated with a doctorate from the Sculpture Department of Kyoto City University of Arts.
Kohei Nawa is an interdisciplinary artist who specializes in using seemingly ordinary and mundane materials to convey a unique worldview. His works include different forms such as sculpture, painting, installation art, stage performance art and video. His diversified practice aims to explore people’s perception of virtual and physical spaces. His works also study the natural and artificial, the individual and the whole. relationship between. While enthusiastically embracing avant-garde emerging technologies, we are also deeply in awe and even questioning the many unknowns it brings.
Kohei Nawa’s work continues to focus on a core concept – the cell. As the basic concept that constitutes all living things, cell proliferation and death are the most basic forms and processes of life replacement in the universe. Perhaps, the original motivation and inspiration of the artist’s creation is to remind us of the most original and pure way of existence of life.
