Eastern Cyber Technology Creates Buddha
Lin Kunhao, whose real name is Lin Kunhao, was born in Fujian, China in 1990. He is one of the most high-profile digital artists in China. His works are famous for their extremely exquisite and transcendent virtual worlds. Recently, he has used interdisciplinary knowledge and open source information to build databases, combined with algorithmic programs to create ever-changing information complexes.
Dabeiyuzhou explores the interactive relationship between human consciousness and cutting-edge technology in the Internet era. Through data collection, algorithm generation, artist intervention and other procedures to process information, it constructs a personal system of human-machine collaboration principles. He is a technological optimist. In the current era of both desire and worship for information and data, he believes that technology is a blessing. In his works, algorithms push the boundaries of natural reality, summoning possibilities and futures beyond reality into the current time and space.
After being exposed to next-generation game 3D art in 2010, he created the “As if the Future” series of works using digital 3D as the medium in 2015. Then he added the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) algorithm based on the 3D medium and started “Virtual Art” in 2019. The creation of “Butterfly”; other important works include “Garbled Poetry” created in 2017, and began to name subsequent visual works after garbled characters; and in 2019, he used images and algorithmic text to create “Text Gene Project”, establishing a huge Text database with unique compilation method.
