Luo Xianbing’s works, in the form of wool felt sculptures, tell the emotions behind every ordinary being, which come from childhood, crowds, and introspection. These emotions rely on various strange images in dreams, and give birth to a sense of peace and self-consistency in fragility and solitude.
The protagonist of Luo Xianbing’s creation has always been a little girl with a round body, no clothes to cover, soft and fragile, no mouth, quiet and speechless, always sitting with legs hugged or curled up, quietly dazed in various bizarre worlds, as if nothing can affect her self-determination.
The image of this little girl is the product of Luo Xianbing’s attempt to self-heal her childhood trauma. She is autistic and doesn’t like to talk, always sitting quietly in the corner, dazed and daydreaming. Therefore, in Luo Xianbing’s works, some painful symbolic images and a calm and self-satisfied little girl often appear at the same time. Facing the small thorns in life, the oppression brought by strangers, and the monsters in nightmares, the little girl always lives with all of this quietly and peacefully, just like Luo Xianbing’s psychological state when creating, expressing negative emotions such as anxiety, loneliness, and illness through the form of creation. This expression is a way of self-healing, and it has also received feedback from many viewers who resonate with them or feel that they have healed themselves. It seems that on the way to healing myself, I also share a small piece of fragile but firm warmth.
